Matthew Wuyan won his fifth consecutive singles match and clinched the victory as Deerfield defeated Choate 5-2 on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Deerfield and Choate are now both 5-3 on the season.
Deerfield won the doubles point with outstanding play at the second and third positions. Deepak Pathapati and Adrian Yao blanked their opponents 8-0 in the bottom spot, while Gideon Yektai and Cosmo Hunt held off a late comeback to triumph 8-5.
In singles, Arthur Yao quickly gave Deerfield a 2-0 lead, winning his match without giving up a game. Pathapati earned Deerfield’s third point with a gritty win at third singles, and Wuyan and Hunt finished nearly simultaneously (Hunt’s victory coming on his seventh match point).
Alfi Auersperg and Yektai rounded out the singles lineup with two hard-fought losses.
