The Deerfield Varsity tennis team took another tough loss on Saturday. Visiting Hotchkiss was a strong opponent and swept the Deerfield squad. With a few starters missing from the lineup, the team played a few positions up at singles and needed to adapt at doubles as well. Our doubles teams played tough and didn’t back down in the face of powerful groundstrokes and volleys coming their way. In fact, Deerfield’s doubles pairs hit some beautiful shots throughout the day. Ultimately it was not enough to win any of those contests. Hotchkiss had the advantage at singles as well. Credit goes to Tori Waterfall who fought to the final point in a third set tiebreaker at third singles. Her resilience, week in and week out, this season cannot be overstated. Both Sophia and Catalina bounced back after slow first sets to post four wins in the second. The team drops to 4-3 with a slower week ahead. The team is not back in action until Saturday at the Loomis Chaffee School.
