Deerfield struggled and fell hard against a strong Taft team on Saturday. Something to feel good about, though, was the single win from Whitney Vogt in #2 singles. Vogt crushed her first set 6-3 and then dropped the second 2-6 to require a tiebreak super breaker, with the first player to secure 7 points and win by two the victor. Vogt used her superior baseline volley and skills at-net, along with her height and pure effort, to win the tiebreak 7-4 and give Deerfield its only point of the day. Julia Bewkes’ persistence at #4 doubles is also to be admired: despite losing the first set 0-6, she rallied for a convincing 4-6 loss in the second set. The team hopes for more practice to knock the rust off and get things going in the weeks ahead.
