Matthew Wuyan and Arthur Yao both won three-set singles thrillers, but Deerfield lost 4-3 to Andover in a blockbuster Family Weekend matchup. Deerfield is now 2-3 on the season, while Andover remains undefeated at 5-0.
Deerfield’s three-match doubles winning streak was brought to an end by Andover’s second and third pairs. Gideon Yektai and Cosmo Hunt lost a tough 8-4 decision, while Deepak Pathapati and Adrian Yao fell 8-3. At first doubles, Alfi Auersperg and Matthew Wuyan were leading 7-4 when play was halted.
Auersperg got Deerfield on the board at first singles, where he defeated Chase Denholm 6-2, 6-1.
Andover earned two quick points from the third and fourth singles positions; Yektai played a close first set before dropping the second 6-1, while an injured Pathapati battled hard but managed only a pair of games.
Andover clinched the match at fifth singles, where Sean Kralik defeated Hunt 6-3 in the third.
Deerfield will seek to level its record against NMH this coming Wednesday, before enjoying a rare weekend off.
