It was a windy Saturday on Lake Lake Quinsigamond, but the much-awaited arrival of sunshine and warmth lifted spirits high as Deerfield girls’ rowing team faced its first races of the 2018 season! As an opener, Saturday’s regatta with St. Mark’s, Brooks, Greenwich Academy and Newton Country Day exposed the Deerfield team’s impressive power and potential in all four varsity boats, with the G1 crowning the afternoon in a decisive open water finish on the entire field (for full results, click here). With three returning rowers from last season’s New England championship winning crew, all of New England is certainly watching this one carefully. The G2 saw several returners stepping up to the competition from last season’s lineups, while a significant crop of novice rowers filled many of the seats in the G3 and G4, rendering their fourth-place finishes in the field of five nothing short of encouraging. The team travels to travel to Quasset Lake next Saturday more prepared and, as always, ready to improve upon this invaluable experience as they face off against Pomfret, Dexter/Southfield, Groton, and Taft.
