In a change of time and location, Deerfield faced off against Hotchkiss on Saturday afternoon at Eaglebrook. The game was fast and physical, with both teams skating hard and competing for every puck. Both goalies were excellent, and despite putting 38 shots on goal, we only found the back of the net once. Mary Edmonds ‘19 opened the scoring in the second period, blasting a puck in off of assists from Mae Emerson ‘19 and Christina Halloran ‘20. Hotchkiss was able to tie the score late in the period off of a weird deflection, and we were never able to quite find the winner as time wound down. Still, the Big Green worked incredibly hard today: we were down two more players, and everyone stepped up and competed until the last whistle. Caroline Skillman ‘19 and Ali Dougal ‘18 were particularly effective at relatively new positions, our four defensemen played with poise and composure, and Liv Mikesell ‘20 was solid with 22 saves. Thank you to the Hoar family for the mac and cheese, chicken wings, drinks and treats after the game! Next up is Williston on the road on Wednesday.
