In our final game at Eaglebrook, Deerfield faced off against a physical Cushing squad on Wednesday evening. We played a strong first period, using our speed to create numerous opportunities in the offensive zone, while our defense did a nice job of shutting down Cushing rushes at the blue line. Deirdre Mullowney ’19 got us on the board when she finished off a beautiful end-to-end rush (assisted by Caroline Skillman ’19), and we went into the locker room up 1-0 after the first period. We continued to press in the second period, and Mary Edmonds ’19 scored on her own rebound after Christina Halloran ’20 drove hard to the net (Mae Emerson ’19 and Erin DeMarco ’19 earned assists). Ellia Chiang ’21 extended our lead to three in the third period when she came out from behind the net and slipped a puck through traffic (assists to Raegan Hill ’19 and Ali Dougal ’18), but Cushing stormed right back less than ten seconds later and pulled back to within two. However, Brenna Hoar ’18 put the game away with a beautiful shot top corner, assisted by Skillman and Margaret Williams ’19. Jordan Manning ’19 earned the win in goal. The team did a good job of maintaining their composure and playing hard for three periods, and we’ll look to carry the momentum forward when we face Hotchkiss on Saturday night at UMass Amherst. Thank you to the Manning family for the pizza, drinks, and treats after the game!
