Hockey, Girls: Varsity defeats Berkshire School

Event Details

Girls Varsity Hockey hit the road yet again on Saturday afternoon to take on a young and feisty Berkshire squad. Despite having a significant possession and shot advantage through two periods, Deerfield found itself down 1-0 heading into the final frame thanks to a Berkshire goal in the opening minute of the game. After some encouragement from former captain Meghan Halloran ’17 (now at Williams), the team came out flying in the third period. Mary Edmonds ’19 got us on the board less than 30 seconds in, possessing the puck beautifully in the zone, finding a lane, and firing the puck into the back of the net. Christina Halloran ’20 gave us the lead less than two minutes later, putting home the rebound of a Mae Emerson ’19 shot (Edmonds earned the secondary assist). Halloran gave us some breathing room with her second goal of the game (unassisted), before Deirdre Mullowney ’19 put the game out of reach when her shot from the point slipped through. Brenna Hoar ’18 rounded out the scoring with a beautiful backhander top corner, with Erin Howe ’20 and Margaret Williams ’19 earning assists on the play. Liv Mikesell ’20 got the win in goal. Many thanks to the Visnapuus for the pizza, bread, salad, fruit, cookies, and drinks after the game. Next up is Cushing at home (Eaglebrook) on Wednesday night.
