Basketball, Girls: Junior Varsity loses to Northfield Mount Hermon

Event Details

On Saturday, Deerfield Academy traveled north to face perennial powerhouse Northfield Mount Hermon and endured a 43-27 loss. While this game snapped a four-game win streak for the Green, this game also marked notable growth for Deerfield over the course of the season. Deerfield found itself down by 12 points at the close of the half, largely the result of 10 turnovers on offense and a lack of defensive rebounds. A determined Green, however, opened the door on the second half of this game by converting on a couple of quick-hitting scoring opportunities. For the majority of the second half, Deerfield dictated the game’s tempo. With just over three minutes left to play, with their lead trimmed to only five points, NMH, led by senior Caronique Campbell (9 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks), closed out the game in good form. The game, in all, featured balanced scoring from both teams. Alexia Baker ’19 extends her recent streak stellar play by leading all Deerfield scorers with 8 points. Captain Jada Howard ’19 contributed 6 points to go along with her 5 steals. Vera Grace Menafee ’20, Kate Hickey ’20, Ruby Chase ’21, and Annie Kane ’20, and Michelle Zimmermann ‘21 all added to the scoring column while Whitney Vogt ’20, Sami Dulam ’21, and Samara Cummings ’20 were noteworthy for their work in the paint. With the contest, NMH remains undefeated at 11-0 while Deerfield (8-5) looks forward to Wednesday’s home contest against a talented Westminster team.
