On Wednesday, February 21st, the boys thirds basketball team hit the road for the season finale against Loomis in Windsor, CT. Despite leading by as many as 14 points in the second half, Deerfield were unable to hold off a late Loomis run and dropped a heartbreaking 47-44 decision to finish the season at 5-8. Down by 1 with 2 seconds left, Deerfield was fouled on a 3-point shot, but the shot didn’t fall and the team was unable to convert any of the free throws. Loomis added 2 late free throws for the final margin. Crawford Rice ’21 was the leading scorer with 12 points and Chase Mathis ’21 went 3-6 from the 3-point line to contribute 9 points. Despite a sub .500 record, the team battled all year long and there was significant improvement from many of the players.
