Deerfield took the ice against St. Paul’s this afternoon in our final home game of 2018. Both teams had good chances in the first period, but it was the visitors who were able to capitalize, first on a breakaway off of a blocked shot, and second off of a scrum in front of the net. We pulled within one in the second period, when Ellia Chiang ‘21 found Mary Edmonds ‘19 in front of the net, but SPS extended the lead once again off of another net front battle. We started the third period with a ton of energy, and hard work from Haley Sundstrom ‘21 and Brianna Felice ‘21 down low which led to a Kelly Howe ‘22 goal, the first of her Deerfield career. Though we continued to press for the rest of the period, SPS took advantage of a lazy back check with two minutes to go, putting the game out of reach. Liv Mikesell ‘20 was very good in goal with 25 saves, while we put 25 shots on the SPS net. Chiang, Edmonds and Sundstrom all had strong games at forward, while Howe was awarded the hard hat for her consistent effort on the forecheck. Next up is a game against Worcester Academy at the Cushing tournament. Thank you to the Hallorans for the fruit and special brownies after the game!
