Hockey, Boys: Junior Varsity loses to Choate

Event Details

Boys JV hockey hosted Choate on Saturday afternoon in the second of a two-game home stand early in their season. Coming off their 4-2 win over Pope Francis high School the night before Deerfield was excited to be on the ice again in less than 24 hours. Choate jumped out to a 1-0 lead when they picked up a loose puck on the Deerfield blue line and their player rifled home a shot past a sprawling Colin Olson in the net.

Deerfield battled hard and got the equalizer with just under 3 minutes to play in the first period. Garrett Moe continued his scoring streak with a nifty shot off a pass from Will Dale. However, the lead was short-lived as choate came back less than 2 minutes later and got back the lead at 2-1.

Period 2 saw Choate take a commanding 4-1 lead scoring the next two goals in the game. Gabe Moos scored with just 22 seconds remaining in the 2nd period to close the gap at 4-2 heading into the final stanza.

Deerfield would score first in the third to make the game interesting. Mo0mentum was starting to shift in our direction for the first time all game, but Choate would answer once again a couple of minutes later making the lead go back to two goals. They would score again to finish the scoring and take a 6-3 win on the road.

Takeaways for the Deerfield squad had to be that we need to do a better job keeping our composure and playing with more disciplined. Several of the Choate goals occurred with us giving them odd man rushes.

The boys in green will go back to work this week to prepare for the next game against Winchendon on Wednesday.
