Deerfield Academy Jr. A Boys Soccer beat a talented Loomis Chaffee squad 2 – 0 on Wednesday afternoon. Energetic and eager to push, Deerfield used quick ball movement and positioning to control the match early. Eric Wang ’20 and Tait Kline ’22 controlled the midfield, and worked carefully with the steady DA back line to wall out any Loomis opportunities. Defenders Alex Strait ’20, Ben King ’22, and Tommy Leimkuhler ’21 switched the field again and again, searching for seams in the Loomis half. Finally, a quick pass ahead ended up in the right corner with forward Sam Lauer ’20, who sent a rainbow cross right in front of the box, tapped in by winger Adrian Yao ’20 for the 1 – 0 lead. After the goal, Deerfield continued to pressure up, leading to opportunities from forward Noah Depp ’21 and midfielder Tomás Cushman ’22. However, both the mobile Loomis keeper and DA goalie Crawford Rice ’21 held their nets clear for the remainder of the half. After the break, DA continued to probe for weaknesses in the Loomis defense, leading to shots from Lauer, Depp, and Will Schoelkopf ’21. With clean passes into space, Deerfield drew several corner kicks, but none of the balls sent sailing into the box found the net. Midway through the second half, however, Kline found himself with the ball, taken from Loomis at the top of the box, and shot a lefty rocket to the top left corner of the box for Deerfield’s second and final goal. The Big Green held on to their lead for the remainder of the game and have set their sights on Choate in the final game of the season this Saturday.
