Deerfield saved their best performance to date for their final home game of the year, beating a talented Cheshire Academy team 34-14. Quinton Quirrenbach returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. The return TD was Quinton’s second return touchdown of the season and Deerfield’s third of the season. On the ensuing kickoff, K Jack Bill snuck an onside kick down the home sideline and it was recovered by SS Luke Terry. Deerfield drove down to the 5 yard line but was unable to score. Cheshire got the ball back near their end zone and on third down DE Francis Dooley caused a fumble at the 1 yard line which was recovered by LB Bayard DeMallie. QB Jack Bill scored from 1 yard out on the next play to put Deerfield ahead 14-0 in the first quarter. Deerfield took a 21-7 lead into the half and maintained the lead the rest of the game. Jack Bill and RB Griffin Schutz both scored twice ground in the game and the Deerfield defense limited Cheshire to only 1 score in the 2nd half. DE Francis Dooley was all over the field on defense and played his best game of the season. QB Jack Bill made his first start of the season on the defensive side of the ball and LB Cooper DeMallie saw his first varsity action of the season. FS Kyle MacGillis intercepted a Cheshire pass in the 2nd quarter for his first interception of the season. WR/DB Levi Constant also started his first game of the season at cornerback and played very well in coverage. Deerfield finishes the season against undefeated Choate at 1:15 on Saturday in Connecticut.
