On a perfect autumn day, the JV Football team travelled to Loomis for our last game of the season. Coaching the Pelicans was none other than Deerfield graduate, Mat DeNunzio, and having played quarterback for the JV squad, we knew we’d struggle to fool him with our complicated offense led by 10th grader, Max Wuchenich. Coach Kelly would have no chicanery; he challenged the boys to step up and play with passion and desire (and also a promise of Chipotle with a victory) – and the fellas did not let him down. Offensively we were led by Bryce Pang, and on the defensive side of the ball, Carter Hampson and Copper DeMallie were excellent. Coach Philie summed it up best at the end of the game as he gathered the team together at the center of the field, “when a team comes together and decides to play for one another as opposed to playing for themselves, great things can happen”.
The coaches would especially like to thank, Jackson Palmer, Jack Trapp and Sai Dulam, for their commitment to the JV football experience! Three better leaders could not be found in our Athletic Department.
