Deerfield ended their season at home in a rematch with Hampshire Regional School. The fast ball movement across both ends of the field showed how much both teams had improved since their earlier meeting. The Big Green have come so far from their first game when they were just learning skills and strategies. This game showed how much each player had improved her stick skills and understanding of the game.
Strong play from Sara Ito-Bagshaw ’22, Sophia Hamlen ’22, and Lisa Ito-Bagshaw ’21 helped create great ball movement up field. Deerfield generated more shots than HRS, but their defense kept the game scoreless until 10:49 when Fourth Sukprawit ’19 and Lisa Ito-Bagshaw ’21 repeated their same goal-scoring play from the last game. Lisa made a beautiful pass from the right side of the cage to Fourth on the left wing who popped the ball into the weak-side of the goal. Just about 3 minutes later, Lizzie Eudy ’22 scored unassisted as she made a deft move passed the goalkeeper to make the score 2-0. Eudy scored again 5 minutes later off on a corner. Eudy inserted the ball to Kailen Coelho ’20 who then passed it back to Eudy for the goal. Deerfield went into the half up 3-0.
The second half saw more action in the midfield and in Deerfield’s scoring circle from Camille Glatt ’21, Jing He ’21 and Athena Zarmakoupis ’21 . Strong play in the midfield came from Bri Felice ’21, Kate Stenger ’21, Lauren Stenger “21, Elsa Marrian ’21 and Willow Woodward ’22. After many great scoring opportunities, Kaitlyn Kelly ’22 scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Bri Felice at the 8:39 mark.
Deerfield’s defensive unit of Maddie Boger ’21, Lily Zheng ’22, MB Zeron ’21 and Kailen Coelho ’19 and goalkeeper Gabriela Hu ’21 played well together to earn the shutout.
