The Big Green traveled to Worcester Academy on Wednesday to take on the Rams. Deerfield battled against a strong team and strong elements, as the wind whipped across the turf field while a heavy rain came down. Despite these factors, Deerfield did not let down for the entire 80 minutes of play.
Worcester come out on the offensive and an early goal put them up 1-0. The Big Green, however, immediately countered, using great combination play to find Sophie Opler ’19, who put the ball in the back of the net and tie the game up at 1-1. Despite opportunities for both teams, the game would remain at 1-1 entering the half.
The second half started off similarly to the first, with Worcester capitalizing early, but Deerfield finding a way to counter. Another great combination of plays through the midfield found Annie Kane ’20, who buried the ball in the upper-left hand corner of the net to tie the game at 2-2. The Big Green continued to battle for the remainder of the half – holding strong in the back, covering a lot of ground in the midfield, and creating dynamic runs up top – but Worcester was able to capitalize two more times to end the game at 4-2.
Deerfield will look to bounce back with their upcoming road game on Friday, October 19th at Taft.
