The Big Green defeated neighboring Northfield Mt. Herman yesterday 3-2 on an unusually warm 80 degree mid-October Wednesday.
The Big Green wasted no time and got on the board ten minutes into the game when Leanna Dalessio ’19 won the ball and played back to Angie Rey ’21 who connected a through ball to Bailey Cheetham ’19. Bailey got on the end of the pass and slipped the ball past the NMH goalkeeper. NMH leveled the score shortly before halftime when the Hoggers themselves connected on a through ball for a 1v1 goal.
Entering the second half at 1-1, the Big Green were determined to battle the Hoggers for a full 80 minutes. Ten minutes into the second half the Hoggers got the go-ahead goal to make the score 2-1. The Big Green showed their resilience and determination as they answered back two minutes later when Margaret Wiliams ’19 and Ruby Chase ’21 combined on the flank for a service into the box that Annie Kane ’20 connected with and put in the back of the net. The Big Green netted the game-winning goal three minutes later when Leanna Dalessio ’19 laid off a service from Nicole Da Costa ’19 for Ruby Chase ’21 to finish.
This was a great team win! The team showed their determination and resilience by keeping their focus even when NMH earned the lead in the second half. The Big Green will look to carry this momentum into Saturday’s Fall Family Weekend game vs. Loomis at 2:30pm.
