Taking on the purple and white penguins of Cushing Academy on their home turf, the DA Girls Reserve got off to a slow start, and the penguins consistently beat the doors to the ball. But Piper Day kept the penguins out of the net, and DA finally rallied, and then Anne Ott, with impressive fancy footwork, set up at the top of the box to launch a great shot on goal, enabling DA to enter the half with a 1-0 lead. In second half action, goalie Lauren Mitchell made some key saves to keep Cushing from scoring, and DA’s attackers went on the offensive. Sabrina Ticer-Wurr, Kristen Ivey, Grace Honos, Jasmine DeCossard, and Allison Xia put good pressure on the penguin goalkeeper, but the winning combination on Wednesday proved to be Kami Meier’s assist across the goalmouth to Sophia Knoblock, who knocked in a goal. DA was in the lead 2-0 when the final whistle blew.
