On Wednesday, October 3rd, the boys junior B soccer team hit the road for a 3:30 game against Avon Old Farms. Despite the muggy conditions, it was a beautiful afternoon for a game and Deerfield took control of the game from the opening kickoff. In the 9th minute, midfielder George Fauver ’22 noticed the AOF keeper off his line and launched a shot from several yards outside the box that found the back of the net. DA kept up the pressure and, in the 17th minute, midfielder Matt Fiero ’22 scored what appeared to be a second goal, but it was cleared off the line by an AOF defender and declared not a goal by the referee. AOF had several good chances late in the half and were able to equalize in the 39th minute to keep the game tied at half-time. Deerfield completely controlled the run of play in the 2nd half and kept the AOF keeper very busy, but were unable to break the deadlock and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The team’s record stands at 1-1-1, with a two-game homestand coming up against PVPA (10/5 at 4:15) and the Westminster School (10/6 at 3) this weekend.
