On Saturday, October 6th, the boys junior B soccer team hosted the Westminster School for a 3 pm kickoff on the lower fields. Westminster controlled the run of play early and, although the ball was in the Deerfield end for most of the half, the defense held up well under intense pressure. Westminster finally broke through in the 12th minute and added another goal in the 21st minute to jump out to a 2-0 lead at half-time. Deerfield was able to apply some offensive pressure in the 2nd half, but Westminster scored again in the 40th minute on a counterattack to up the lead to 3-0. Hugo Nutting ’22 netted his 4th goal of the season in the 48th minute to give Deerfield some hope at 3-1 and the team continued to get good opportunities in the Westminster end. Unfortunately, Westminster was able to add two late goals, in the 53rd and 57th minutes, to get the 5-1 win. The team’s record now stands at 2-2-1 and will hope to get back above .500 with a road game at the Bement School on 10/10 at 3 pm.
