On Friday, October 5th, the boys junior B soccer team faced off against the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts school at 4:15 on the lower fields. The beautiful fall weather finally arrived and it was a cool, sunny afternoon with the field becoming increasingly shady as the game went on. In the 6th minute, Yurok Song ’22 nearly put the home team on the board early, but after a nice run, his shot sailed just over the cross bar. Ten minutes later, Hugo Nutting ’22 found the back of the net to put Deerfield up 1-0. Song didn’t miss on his other opportunities later in the half, scoring in the 24th and 27th minutes to stake Deerfield to a 3-0 lead at half-time. Deerfield came out fired up in the 2nd half and it only took Matt Fiero ’22 two minutes to increase the lead to 4-0. PVPA pulled back a goal in the 42nd minute, but keeper Jack Chorske ’22 made several saves to preserve the lead and the eventual 4-1 win. The team’s record now stands at 2-1-1, with a home game against Westminster coming up on 10/6 at 3 pm.
