On Wednesday, October 10th, the boys junior B soccer team walked the long road north to the end of Main Street for an away game against the Bement School varsity at 3 pm. The day was brutally hot and humid for mid-October, so substitutions were frequent. After a wild back and forth match, Deerfield pulled out the win 3-2, netting the winner in the waning minutes of the match. Yurok Song ’22 opened the scoring in the 5th minute to put Deerfield up 1-0. Fine goaltending play by Jack Chorske ’22 kept Bement off the board until the 17th minute, when the home team finally tied the game, where it remained at half-time. A great save by Chorske in the 41st minute led to some momentum for Deerfield and Song netted his second goal shortly thereafter, in the 43rd minute, to once again give the lead to Deerfield. Bement kept up the pressure and nearly had the equalizer in the 48th minute, but for a defensive clear off the line. All of the pressure finally paid off for Bement and they scored in the 53rd minute to once again tie the game. While it looked like the home team might get the winner in the last few minutes, it was Deerfield’s Gerald Xu ’21 who scored in the 58th minute to secure the 3-2 win for Deerfield. The team’s record now stands at 3-2-1 and they will be back in action at home over parent’s weekend against Eaglebrook on October 13th at 2 pm.
