Deerfield field hockey traveled to play Taft on Saturday. Taft has a great record in the league and the DA girls were excited and up for the challenge. Although we were dealing with some illness, the team rallied around each other and put forth a strong effort. Despite spending most of the first half in our offensive end, Taft scored first. Their goal remained unanswered until the second period when Maddie Zavalick ‘22 connected with Ali Fujiyoshi ‘19 to put one on the board for Deerfield. Taft was quick to respond and sent a beautiful shot into the high corner of our net during one of their corners. Within minutes, Sharon Kereke ‘19 scored for Deerfield to tie the game. While DA kept the pressure on, we missed several attempts to add to our score during regulation. Overtime play was fast and Deerfield worked hard to keep possession. While we made some great connections during the ten-minute sudden-victory period, the game remained 2-2 until the end. Next up: Worcester at home on Wednesday.
