The varsity field hockey team’s 4:15 match-up this afternoon against St. Paul’s School proved to be a real nail-biter. Both teams entered the game undefeated and St. Paul’s controlled more of the first half, while Deerfield dominated the second. Both teams missed some beautiful scoring opportunities and made some nice defensive saves. We were impressed with the play of Meredith Heaney ’19 and Ali Fujiyoshi ’19, who were a force in the center of our field. The referees at the end of the game remarked on the level of skill and aggressive play they had seen on both sides of the field, but one team had to come out on top, and today it was SPS. St. Paul’s scored halfway through the first half and the 1-0 score remained unchanged until the final whistle blew. The team will go back to work on Monday to learn from our mistakes and prepare for our away match at KUA on Wednesday.
