The rain finally stopped and we were able to host NMH under dry skies on Wednesday. Deerfield came out quickly against NMH, tallying their first goal (Sharon Kereke ’19) just 22 seconds into the first half. Deerfield kept their momentum and communication up throughout the first thirty minutes and executed several beautiful corners as well. A goal each for Meredith Heaney ’19 and Hannah Roche ’20 came after two well-played corners. Maggie Roche ’19 also found Kereke during the first half for a nicely placed tip to add to the team’s goal tally. The play during the half was punctuated nicely by a lot of positive energy and cheer from those on the bench and by the end of the half the score was 4 – 0. During the second half, the Deerfield offensive unit continued to control the play. The NMH goalie made some great saves though and their defensive unit kept the goal tally low, but Deerfield was able to sneak one more goal in (Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 from Heaney) before the final whistle blew to finish the game at 5-0. It was great to see each member of the team contribute to the Deerfield win today. Next up, Deerfield plays St. Paul’s at home on Saturday.
