Deerfield played Loomis today in front of parents and friends to cap off our Fall Parents Weekend. Despite rain earlier in the day, we had a sunny and cool 2:30 game start. It felt like a perfect day for field hockey. Deerfield knew they had to come out aggressively from the start, and we did just that. After some tenacious offensive play, Sharon Kereke ‘19 was able to capitalize on a pass from Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 and put a goal on the scoreboard for DA. Only a few minutes later, Maggie Roche ’19 increased the goal margin to 2-0 and with seconds left in the half, Juliet Perry’s ’19 cross found Kereke’s stick at the far post to finish the half with a score of 3 – 0. However, Loomis did not give up. They had some strong offensive players who made a few runs towards our goal during the second half. Liv Mikesell ’20 made a great save high in the air to maintain her shut-out though. Kereke, Perry, and M. Roche each scored during the second half and after 60 minutes of play, Deerfield finished on top 6 – 0. A well-played team effort today in front of a supportive group of fans!
