We faced our toughest opponent of the season this Wednesday afternoon – Suffield’s JV team was the only team to beat us at full strength last year – and the small crowd of spectators certainly got their money’s worth. We roared out to a 2-0 lead behind shutout wins from Ryan at line 4 and Connor at line 2, but after Smitty’s two-game lead slipped away, the momentum turned in Suffield’s favor. Drew gutted out a tough win at line 1, but Elliot fell 11-9 in the fifth, leaving the score at 3-2 to Deerfield.
With Sam having battled back from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth game and Adrian clinging to a 2-1 lead, ESPN’s Sports Analytics department quickly crunched the numbers and our Win Percentage (TM) rose to 87.5%. In the end, it was Bronckers with the clinch (11-9 in the fifth) while Adrian slammed the door a few minutes later.
Today was a true team effort, right down to the fervent support from the bench mob. Our record now stands at 8-0 (currently the winningest winter sport), and only a rematch with Bement stands between us and Long Winter Weekend.
