In our first “home” game in over a month, Deerfield took the ice against rival Choate tonight at Eaglebrook. After several excellent shifts, the game took a tough turn when Elizabeth Hernberg ‘18 went hard into the boards and suffered a serious back injury. It’s never easy to see a beloved teammate go down like that, and this has happened to this team twice this season.
Despite a significant shot advantage, and fantastic pace all over the ice, Deerfield ended up settling for a 2-2 tie. Goals were scored by Ellia Chiang ‘21 (assist to Deirdre Mullowney ‘19) and Ali Fujiyoshi ‘19 off of a beautiful tip from a Christina Halloran ‘20 shot (Mullowney earned the second assist). Several players stepped up big time today, and the team should be proud of the intensity they played with today. We’ll look to rebound on Friday night against New Hampton. Many thanks to the Mullowneys for the pizza, fruit and cookies after the game.
