A day after a vicious stomach bug ripped its way through several members of the Girls Varsity Hockey team, our healthy players gamely boarded the bus and made the long trek over to Exeter. With several players running on fumes, everybody stepped up today and competed hard from start to finish. Though we didn’t generate as many shots as we would have liked, we dominated possession and kept the puck mostly out of our zone. Ellia Chiang ‘21 opened the scoring when she won a race to a Deirdre Mullowney ‘19 dump in, and a strange bounce allowed her to slip the puck into an open net. After Exeter tied the score in the second period, Mary Edmonds ‘19 and Christina Halloran ‘20 combined for another dynamic penalty kill, with Edmonds finding an open Halloran in the slot, who quickly wristed the puck into the net. Though we nearly ran out of gas in the dying minutes, we toughed it out to secure the win. Jordan Manning ‘19 earned the win in goal, and Erin Howe ‘20 played a strong game on the wing. Thank you to the Wenners family for the delicious spread of food for the bus ride home. Next up is our first home (Eaglebrook) game in over a month: Wednesday against Choate!
