The boys JV hockey team traveled south on this snowy Wednesday in mid-January to play Williston. Big Green won their fifth straight game to improve their record to 5-1. The final score was Deerfield 7 – Williston 5. Deerfield got offensive production from three lines and Alex Leong hung in there in the net to secure the victory today.
The first period saw Williston grab an early lead as they scored the game’s first two goals. Will Dale was able to tally the first Deerfield goal near the end of the first period cutting the lead to one goal. His goal was assisted by Will Holland and Jake Presnal.
Garrett Moe started the second period strongly scoring the tying goal early in the period with assists going again to Will Holland and then Nate Baker as well. Williston stormed back to take a 3-2 lead before Deerfield would score the next three goals to finish the period with a 5-3 lead. Alton Machen, Nicky Hay, and Austin Philie each scored during the 5 minute blitz.
In the third period while on the power play Alton would score his second goal of the game with assists coming from Gabe Moos and Will Holland. Williston then scored the next two goals making it a one-goal game 6-5 with just over three minutes to play. Andy Han scored the empty net goal with the assist going to Gabe Moos.
The team begins preparing for Saturday’s matchup with rival Choate. The game will be at Choate on Saturday beginning at 5:00pm.
