Boys J.V. Hockey Continues Winning Ways
The boys J.V. team hosted the Big Blue from Andover on Saturday and skated away with a solid 3-0 win. Andrew Peck ’18 got the start in net for the first time since sustaining an injury back in early December. He was solid all afternoon, turning away several good chances created by the Andover team.
The score stayed at 0-0 for much of the opening period with Deerfield applying most of the offensive pressure. Will Dale ’19 would break the deadlock as he found the back of the net off a nice rush up the ice. He was assisted on the goal from Jacob Presnal ‘18 and Will Holland ’21.
The second period was much the same as Deerfield dominated the play. However, Andover began to elevate their game toward the end of the period and created a few good scoring opportunities themselves. Defenseman Matt Gardner ’20 would notch the only goal of the period after intercepting the puck in the high slot and scoring on a deflected shot.
We knew Andover wasn’t going to go away as the third period began, and Andrew Peck found more pressure coming his way. The defensive group of Henry Gustafson ’20, Alex Weinman ’19, Will Holland ’21, Nate Baker, ’19, and Matt Gardner were solid throughout the game.
Deerfield’s Aidan Philie ’20 got an empty net tally to make the final score 3-0.
The team has two big contests this week on the road. On Wednesday we travel to Williston for a 2:30 contest. Then on Saturday we travel to Choate for a 5:00 game against the Wild Boars.
