On Saturday, January 13th, the boys thirds basketball team traveled to Suffield Academy for a 3 pm tip and lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer. Suffield was up 16-14 at half time and each team had a lead in the second half. With the tied scored at 37, Suffield had the ball and a foul was called on Deerfield with .4 seconds remaining in the game. The Suffield player hit both of the free throws for a 39-37 lead and Deerfield was unable to score with such a short time left on the clock. The team was led by Crawford Rice ’21 with 10 points, with Chase Mathis ’21 and Henry Renelus ’20 each contributing 6. Deerfield will get another crack at Suffield at home later in the season, but the next game is January 17th at home against Cushing Academy at 4:30 pm.
