On Saturday, January 27th, the boys thirds basketball team traveled to Avon, CT to face Avon Old Farms in a 2:30 tipoff. After a tight game where neither team had more than a 6-point lead, Deerfield came up short in a 48-44 overtime loss to drop to 4-5 on the season. After leading by 2 at half-time, Deerfield fell behind several times in the second half, but rallied to send the game into overtime. With 8 seconds left in the game and trailing by 2, Deerfield’s Darrel Dartey ’20 was controversially called for traveling and the ball went to Avon, who got a layup as time expired for the final 4-point margin. Lorenzo Biondo ’21 led the team with 11 points, including a layup to send the game into overtime, while Crawford Rice ’21 added 8. The boys thirds team will be back in action after Long Winter Weekend on the road against the Williston Northampton School on February 7th at 4:30 pm.
