Volleyball started off the season this weekend with a tri-match against Milton and Miss Porter’s. Deerfield went up against the mustangs of Milton first, and proved to have the upper hand all along. The first set became a game of serving, with Deerfield scoring a number of aces, and Milton missing a large number of serves. The second set was much closer, and with the big green trailing 24-22 at the end of the set Deerfield’s Kiana Rawji stepped up to serve and calmly brought us back for a 26-24 win. With all of the momentum Deerfield again took charge, ending he match quickly with a score of 25-9.
Later in the day Deerfield put up a full team effort against Miss Porter’s. A very skilled team, Miss Porter’s took the first set in a hard-fought battle. The loss lit a fire in the bellies of the Deerfield team and we started off the next set with an 8-1 lead right off the bat. Able to hold the lead Deerfield took the second set. Miss Porter’s came back with some strong blocking to shut down our outside hitters and win the third set. A hard fought fourth set left the match tied at 2-2. The fifth set again saw Deerfield pushing out ahead early, with great work by our outside hitters Georgia Quesnelle and Camila Navarro who had been strong for the big green all day. After a long tiring match, Deerfield never let down and finished up strong to win the match. Special shout out to Kiana Rawji and Rosa Sun who were consistently strong and the base of our team throughout the two matches.
We are excited to be 2-0 headed into our match against Worcester on Wednesday!
