Deerfield Completes 3-goal Comeback to Tie Milton Academy

On a hot and sunny day in the Pioneer Valley the Deerfield girls varsity soccer team opened their 2017 season against Milton Academy. It was a tough first half for the Big Green as they went into the break trailing 2-0 off of an early Milton goal and a successful penalty kick conversion.

After conceding another goal in the start of second half, the Big Green came alive in the last 25 minutes of the game. It all started with a free kick from the left side of the field from Brenna Hoar ‘18. The beautiful service dropped in Milton’s 18-yard box and Annabel Gerber ’20 put it in the net to make the score 3-1. This goal gave Deerfield renewed energy that they would continually raise throughout the rest of the game. A few minutes later, Hoar struck with a goal of her own off another free kick from just outside the center of the 18-yard box. With Deerfield only one goal down, the girls dug their heels in for the final minutes of the game. In dramatic fashion, Brenna Hoar scored her second goal of the game from a long distance shot to complete the comeback. With a final score of 3-3, Deerfield was very pleased with their second half effort and will look to build on it for Wednesday’s game as the team hosts Westminster at 3 p.m.
