On Friday, September 29th, the boys junior B soccer team traveled to Suffield Academy for a rare Friday late afternoon game. Despite arriving a few minutes late for the game, Deerfield was still able to win handily, 5-0. Rob Sawyers ’21 was the main story for Deerfield on the afternoon, starting early by hammering a shot off the crossbar in the 2nd minute. Deerfield thoroughly controlled the run of play, but was unable to get on the scoreboard until the 18th minute, when Sawyers finally found the back of the net after several good chances.
Co-captain Nic Labadan ’18 doubled the lead with his 3rd goal of the season in 24th minute and Deerfield led 2-0 at the half. Sawyers connected again in the 37th minute, getting a hard shot to hit the post and go in. Gerald Xu ’21 took advantage of some confusion in front of the Suffield net in the 38th minute to make the score 4-0. Ethan Chen ’20 finished the scoring in the 55th minute for the final margin of 5-0. Keeper Alex Leong ’20 made a nice save with only a few seconds left in the game to preserve the clean sheet. Deerfield’s boys junior B soccer team ran their season record to 2-0 and will return to action on 10/7 with a game on the road at Westminster.
