On Wednesday, September 27th, the boys junior B soccer team kicked off their season with an impressive 8-0 win against Eaglebrook School’s JV3 team at home on the lower fields. Their other opponent was the unseasonable weather, with the temperature reaching into the upper 80’s under a bright sun. Early play was uneven, with neither team able to gain an advantage in the first 5 minutes. Deerfield fired off a few good shots in the first 15 minutes, finally culminating with a Shane McCarthy ’21 goal in the 16th minute. 5 minutes later, senior co-captain Nic Labadan ’18 doubled the lead and Deerfield led 2-0 at half time. In the second half, Inthat Boonpongmanee ’19 headed the ball off the bar in the 39th minute, but 3 minutes later, Ethan Chen ’20 extended Deerfield’s lead to 3-0. Other second half goals were scored by Labadan, 2 by Sam Laur ’20, Willy Conzelman ’21, and John O’Loughlin ’21. Deerfield’s boys junior B soccer team starts the season 1-0 and will return to action on Friday, the 29th with a 4:45 game on the road against Suffield.
