Deerfield fell to Suffield 37-27 in a game where both teams had a combined 12 turnovers. It was a closely contested game until the last two minutes of the game when Suffield intercepted the ball on the goaline, sealing the win for the home team.
On offense, the Deerfield scoring was spread out between Keegan MchHugh ’18, Mike Bevino ’18, Inho Choi ’18, and Sam Dwinell ’18. The Deerfield offensive line was much improved from the first game as they paved the way for a solid rushing day by McHugh, Dwinell, and QB Jack Bill.
Defensively, Deerfield forced 5 turnovers; 3 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions. Strong Safety Luke Terry’20 found his way onto a fumble recovery and intercepted his first pass of the season, returning it 50 yards. Corner Back Inho Choi ’18 also recorded his first interception of the season on a tipped ball caused by Free Safety Sam Dwinell ’18. Kicker Conrad Freirer ’18 was perfect on all of his extra points and continues to provide consistent kickoffs. Deerfield will look to bounce back next week against Hotchkiss in their home opener at 4:00pm.
