Deerfield had a hard fought battle with Hotchkiss on Saturday. It was evident from the first minute of the game that we were hungry for a win. The girls were connecting well, taking their hits quickly and pressuring the ball all over the field. Maggie and Tierney had some beautiful passing combinations on the right side, while Meaghan stepped to ball and played with tremendous poise. Deerfield earned six offensive penalty corners in the first 15 minutes of the game and had many scoring opportunities but unfortunately were not able to capitalize. After a time out, Hotchkiss made some adjustments and created some offensive momentum. They scored on two penalty corners before the end of the first half, going up 2-0 by halftime.
The play in the second half was relatively even and with 15 minutes remaining, Deerfield really ramped up their efforts. Mimi and Katherine led the charge in motivating and energizing their teammates. However, despite earning a corner with four minutes left, DA could not find the back of the net, so Hotchkiss ultimately earned the 2-0 win. Liv earned nine saves on the day and played well in net. The girls will go back to work at practice on Monday and look forward to preparing for their away game against Milton at Cushing on Wednesday. Go Big Green!
