On Wednesday afternoon the Deerfield Green Machine (school bus) pulled up to Cushing to play a mutual site game versus Milton. We were excited to play on a new turf and against a new class A opponent. Milton has a great record and is known to have a skilled and aggressive team every year. This is exactly what the girls saw when play commenced on the field at 5:00pm. Milton and Deerfield both played with a lot of heart and aggressiveness. The refs allowed for a game that was both physical and a bit messy, but each team was relentless in their pursuit to put a goal in the net. Despite Deerfield being up on corners and shots, the game remained a tie at 0-0 until three minutes left in the second half. A goal by first year, Hannah Roche ’21, assisted by our junior, Mimi Pastor ’19, put DA on the scoreboard. The girls maintained their lead for the final minutes of the game. Bravo to our midfielders, Cornelia Mackay ’18, Meredith Heaney ’19, Tierney Roche ’18, and Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 for maintaining excellent defensive and offensive support throughout the 60 minute match-up.
