Field Hockey: Reserve loses to Frontier HS

Event Details

Deerfield headed to cross-town rival Frontier on a sunny Friday afternoon. The Big Green has practiced the day before on turf to get ready to play on The Red Hawks’ short and fast grass field. Just as expected, the ball moved quickly up and down the field the entire game. Deerfield scored first at 12 minutes into the game when Charlotte Molinari ’21 intercepted all ball and sent a beautiful through pass behind the defense at midfield to tri-captain Ally Kell ’20. Ally took off at full speed on a break away dribbling down the center of the field to goal. Once in the circle, she took a hard shot that the FRS goalkeeper saved, but Ally quickly chased down her own rebound and blasted it to the back of the net to put the Big Green on the board first. The defensive unit of Saadhya Bahudodda ’20, Izzy Hamlen ’21, Nadia Shahin ’21 and Anne Brown ’21 along with goalkeeper Janice Chen ’20 helped hold the Big Green to a 1-0 lead at the half despite a strong effort by the Frontier offense.

Frontier regrouped, however, and turned up their intensity on offense. Frontier’s Lila Roche ’23 scored off a rebound from a Janice Chen ’21 save 3 minutes into the half. It was Roche again for Frontier with 9:00 remaining in the game to make it 2-1. The Big Green mounted an offensive charged that seemed like it would tie the game, but in the end, Frontier held onto the win. Chen has 13 saves for The Big Green.

Deerfield will have another shot at Frontier at home on Friday, October 6th at 4:30.
