The Deerfield varsity girls team met with Choate Rosemary Hall’s team for an early Saturday match this weekend. The skies were gray and threatening, but the choice to play the match ahead of schedule paid off as the final scores were recorded before any rain fell. The doubles matches went for Deerfield at one and two; Alya Abd-Aziz and Lisa Chen fought hard but yielded the third doubles match 3-8. At first doubles, Tori Waterfall and Ashley Manning continued their dominant play. The pair is among the best volleying team you’ll find at the high school level. Challenging their opponents to win at the net, Tori and Ashley closed points methodically with smart volleys and precise shots down the line. At second doubles Gillian O’Connor and Mimi Delisser posted another victory as a pair, defeating their Choate opponents handily 8-1. The team will certainly miss the seniors next season. Deerfield’s ladies won at singles positions one to five, finishing the day with a decisive 6-3 victory. It was a great day for the Big Green!
