Groton was extremely kind to come to Deerfield for a Thursday afternoon matchup (making up a rare snow-out earlier in the season). We played singles first and came out firing, knowing that Groton is always a tough, deep team. It was the best start we’ve gotten off to in my tenure as coach: the fellas dropped only nine games across six first sets, and we kept our collective foot on the gas right through to the end. While we should perhaps attach an asterisk to our victory, as Groton’s formidable #1 MacGregor Beatty was unable to play, our record now stands at 3-3.
