Tennis, Boys: Junior Varsity defeats Loomis

Event Details

JV Boys’ Tennis took on Loomis Chafee on an unseasonably cool May afternoon. Riding a three-game win streak, the Big Green came in with a wealth of momentum and confidence, and translated these positive feelings into another good win.

Once again, Deerfield’s doubles play proved to be a highlight. The Big Green earned identical 8-2 victories at the #1, #2, and #3 positions, all securing early breaks and never giving up their lead. In exhibition doubles, Skye Bacon ’20 and Jackson Palmer ’19 put in an equally strong showing, beating their opponents 8-1.

Having secured the doubles point, Deerfield kept their momentum going with several decisive wins in singles play. Alex Alijani ’19 continued his string of stellar play at #4, winning 6-0, 6-2. Eli Ji ’19 and Jeffrey So ’19 soon followed, both securing straight sets victories at #2 and #3, respectively, and clinching the match for Deerfield. At #5 and #6, Max Bronckers ’17 and Skye Bacon ’20 also earned straight-set victories, albeit in slightly tighter fashion. Finally, at #1, after a slow first set, Joni Otto-Bernstein ’18 quickly turned things around, racing to a 6-0 second set. The third-set super-breaker was a much closer affair, as Joni ultimately fell 8-10. Finally, in exhibition play, Josh Fang ’19 and Jackson Palmer ’19 followed their teammates’ lead, sweeping all three pro-sets at #7-9.

With the 6-1 victory, the team’s record now stands at 6-2 heading into the last stretch of the season. With three matches in seven days, the team is hoping to keep their win streak going until the end of the season!
