On one of the warmest and sunniest days of the spring term, the Thirds Girls Lacrosse squad suited up for a rematch with cross-town rival Bement. Earlier in the season, Bement downed The Big Green 9-6. This time, newcomers, Anne Fioroni, Molly Fischer, Annabel Gerber, Hope Smith and Sarah Wright had some experience under their belts and were ready for the tight rematch. Sarah used her speed in the midfield to come up with numerous groundballs and a key interception to gain possession. Molly Fischer and Anne Fioroni battled Bement’s offense trying to shut down their high scorer from last game; both played tenacious defense and forced some key turnovers to get possession back for The Big Green. On the offensive end, Hope Smith took some solid shots and finally capitalized on her first goal of the season off a pass from Annabel Gerber. Gerber, who scored two goals in the last Bement match-up, improved her efforts by scoring a hat trick. The Big Green fought hard putting pressure on Bement all over the field, but, in the end, Bement held onto the win as the clock ran out. Overall, the game showcased the tremendous progress these players, who only picked up a stick for the first time 7 weeks ago, have made.
