Deerfield Academy JV Holds Off Phillips Academy For Victory
Despite seeing its nine-run lead whittled down by the end, Deerfield Academy JV still held off Phillips Academy for an 11-10 victory on Saturday. Phillips Academy scored eight runs in the failed comeback.
The Big Green grabbed an early lead. Deerfield scored on a walk in the first inning, a walk by Levi Constant in the second inning, a single by John Sawyers in the second inning, and a walk in the second inning.
The Big Green scored six runs in the second inning which was driven by a walk by Constant, a single by Sawyers, and a walk.
Phillips Academy scored eight runs in the seventh inning.
Alex Smith earned the win for Deerfield. He went six innings, allowing two runs, seven hits, and striking out one. Two relievers helped Deerfield close out the victory. Matthew Gardner threw two-thirds of an inning.
Smith, Tim O’Brien, Sawyers, and Shane Graves all had one hit to lead Deerfield. The Big Green stole ten bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Sameer Sharma led the way with two.
