The Varsity girls tennis squad fell to a solid Groton team on Saturday afternoon. Although, the total set score of 4-11 does not reflect the competitive nature of the individual matches. Deerfield played hard through the final point. Tori Waterfall rallied from a 4-6 loss in the first set to win the second 6-3. Buoyed by a strong first serve performance in the latter set, Tori split sets at second singles. Mimi Delisser cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at fifth singles with steady play and great service returns. At sixth singles, Claire Koeppel’s strong baseline game helped her split sets, winning her first 6-3 and yielding the second 3-6. All three doubles matches were close but ultimately went for Groton. The results were 5-8, 5-8, and 6-8 at first, second, and third doubles respectively. The third doubles pair, composed of Adeliza Grace and Esme Benjamin, put together a particularly gritty performance. The team travels to Westminster School this Wednesday.
