Deerfield notched a well-earned victory on Monday night. The team squared off with a deep Westminster squad and fought their way to a 7-2 win. Deerfield started strong, sweeping all three doubles matches (8-2, 9-7, and 8-5 at first, second, and third doubles). The second doubles pair, Gillian O’Connor and Esme Benjamin, fought off two match points while down 7-6 and went on to win three consecutive games and the set (9-7). Ashley Manning played from behind for eleven games in her singles match before going on a five-game winning streak to take the set 10-6. Westminster took second and third singles in extremely competitive matches. Gillian O’Connor repeated her doubles performance at fourth singles, rallying from behind to take the set 11-9. Mimi DeLisser found more success at fifth singles slicing her way to a 10-4 victory. Esme Benjamin used her strong first serve and sharp groundstrokes to win a tight 10-8 victory at sixth singles. The team travels to Suffield on Wednesday, April 19th, looking to improve to .500 on the season.
