The girls’ JV squad handed Williston a decisive loss on Saturday afternoon. Highlights of the day included Whitney Vogt’s 8-3 defeat of her singles opponent, which Vogt accomplished primarily through excellent placement of her volleys. Sasha Hinckley got the only shutout of the day, as her singles opponent fell 8-0 in the face of her ferocious play. Acy Cai and Ally Kell put together another excellent victory, 8-3, with both members of the team hitting excellent line drives and playing aggressively at the net to leave Williston flat-footed. Cate O’Byrne and Abby Bracken, making their doubles debut, showed that they are a force to be reckoned with as they pulled off an 8-3 win. While Soo Oh and Lilia Brooker, both playing singles, were not as lucky, they got 3 games apiece off their opponents, holding their own and staying determined throughout the day. Capping off a great afternoon for Deerfield, Ally Edwards dropped four games in a row but staged an epic comeback to win 8-5 in an exhibition match against one of Williston’s varsity players. The Big Green will face another crosstown rival when they travel to Stoneleigh-Burnham on Wednesday.
